New York, I love you.

I mean how could I not? Yes you are incredibly overwhelming and crazy but just, there’s something that makes me love you. And I’m pretty sure you got Matt on board too.

So yes, back to trip talk. We started in DC, made a quick stop in Philly and then partook in some NYCness for twoish days. [be warned this post is not short - but there are lots of pictures, obviously].

Matt didn’t tell me where we were staying until we got there and oh what a treat it was. We stayed at the W in Times Square which is all sorts of fancypants. I mean they changed the welcome mats in the elevator every day:
Besides that the hotel was just awesome. They had a car service that we got to utilize to get around town and the comfiest bed and just, yes. It was lovely. However be wary at their bar, if you say “pour me a scotch” you may end up being a ridiculous amount (oh yes, Matt learned that one the hard way, ha).

After we checked in and situated we ended up exploring the neighborhood a bit and meeting some friends of Matt’s for dinner. It was so fun to catch up since we hadn’t seen them since our wedding and they’re getting married next summer. We all had delicious burgers and drinks and just a fabulous welcome to the city.
After dinner we visited McGee’s pub which is what MacLaren’s from How I Met Your Mother is based on. It was so fun to see pictures of the cast and the show everywhere and just loved it. We only stayed for a drink before meandering to another bar. The rest of the night we spent walking around the city, hanging out and just soaking up the crazy no sleep city.

On our full day in NYC we stopped by The Today Show and then visited the 9/11 Memorial which was just amazing and  beautiful.
I especially loved the Survivor Tree, something I’d never heard about.

After our tour we enjoyed some NY pizza, explored the New York City Library and eventually made our way to the Top of the Rock (despite the brisk weather).
That night we enjoyed a very cheesy and very romantic carriage ride through Central Park where our driver pointed out all of the awesome movie filming locations (clearly I enjoyed that) and we stopped at the Friends fountain which was awesome.

After our ride we had a lovely Italian feast just the two of us before meeting up with my friend Lynn and her husband Joe for wine and champagne, we’re so classy like that.

The rest of the night we spent wandering Times Square a little bit more before staying up in our room watching TV and just being.

That Saturday we woke up nice and early and met up with Lacey, Dave and baby Sadie for breakfast. It was so fun! Sadie was hilarious breakfast entertainment and it was so great to catch up with Lacey and finally meet Dave!
Afterwards Matt and I ventured to FAO Schwartz to be big little kids and Matt got to fulfill one of his life dreams of playing on the BIG Piano.

Once we got our fill of toy playing we went to MOMA so I could see my most favorite piece of art ever, “Starry Night.” I may have gotten a little misty when we were there.
There was also an awesome display up called “Century of the Child” that had so many awesome displays and just fun things to play with and perfect for photo opps.
Before we knew it we had to check out and head on over to Penn station to make our way to Connecticut. Our time in New York City flew by and there are still so many things we’d love to do so I can’t wait to go back again.

Have you been to NYC? What’s your favorite thing to do or what do you want to see?

happy thursday!

Awesome recap most definitely!!! I love NYC; I haven’t been since 2002 or 2004 (too long) and I definitely don’t think there was a survivor tree at the time.

I, too, would totally take the carriage ride as I’d want to know all about the movies and etc. So cool the driver knew all that!

Hopefully NYC will rebuild quickly and all will be ok/improved for them soon.

NYC looked like an amazing time!!! And so glad you got to meet Sadie, wish I could have dragged Chloe out to Cambridge that Sunday night, but she would have been a wildcard! (and snoozing the entire time) :)

Okay, I want to do that carriage ride even though I don’t have anybody to ride with. HA. I just want to see all the movie locations.

NYC sounds and looks so, so great. I’ve never been and really hoping I can make it up there sometime in 2013. It’s a must!

Andrew his sister played on the Big Piano last year when we were there for Christmas and he LOVED it. It was definitely one of his favorite NYC adventures.
