A weekend of California adventures.

by katelin on August 21, 2012

So. I had a nice long weekend. And vacation. And it was magical. So magical in fact that I’ll be surprised if this whole post isn’t just pictures and rambling. But here we go anyways, let’s see how this works out.

Thursday: Got up bright and early to hit the road. Matt, my brother and I trekked it up to Northern California for an adventure. We stopped at a crazy diner that smelled like old people and was across the street from a gas station with an attached BBQ flame and listened to comedy specials and it was superb.

Eventually we dropped my brother off with some family and we made our way to San Francisco! We visited with my friend Virginia and caught up before heading over to visit our friends Gianni and Laura and their new baby. And when I say new baby, I mean new baby, the little miss was only SIX DAYS old. Let’s just say I was on the verge of happy tears the whole time and she was the squishiest little cutest thing ever.

I mean. Stop it.  It was such a good night and was so great seeing our friends and just, love.

Friday: Let’s be a tourist in San Francisco Day! Me, Matt and Virginia explored Golden Gate Park and the Conservatory and the Full House houses and the waterfront and Ghirardelli Square and the Wharf  and it was superb.

After our busy day we relaxed (which is code for I fell asleep) and enjoyed a delicious dinner and caught up and had drinks with Rachael and just, yes. Adore the city, adore the people.

Saturday: Hung out a bit in the morning before saying our goodbyes and making our way to Salinas for my family’s annual get together. Before Salinas we made a little pitstop at Santa Clara University which is basically the homeland to Matt’s whole family. His last name is on three buildings and so many of his family members have gone there! It was awesome to visit and fun to walk around a bit.

Eventually we made it to Salinas and seriously, my family is huge and full of the best people ever. The BBQ was such a great time of catching up and dancing and drinking and just, heavenly.

Sunday: The best day to be Swiss. If you didn’t know, now you do: I’m Swiss. And it’s a big deal. Every year there is a huge Swiss Picnic in Gonzalez, CA and it’s the best. It’s just another good reason to catch up with family, eat delicious food and listen to good music. It’s changed a bit over the years but I still love it.

The whole day went by too fast but it was so fun to hang out with family. The evening was spent napping and relaxing in our food comas. So you know, typical.

Monday: The end of vacation as we know it. Rather a long day of driving and lingering and laughing over the weekend and just yes. We made it home with time to unpack, order sushi and watch The Hunger Games. And it was lovely. Exactly how vacations should come to an end.

And how was your weekend? Any adventures? Anything super awesome?

happy tuesday!

There’s a Swiss picnic in Gonzalez? I didn’t realize there was such a huge population in the Monterey area. :-) Fun times!

Vacation looks awesome. San Fran is on my list of places to visit. Do I see the Full House in the background in that photo?!

What a fun vacation! I would love to go to the Full House homes someday. Glad you had a great time.

There was a BBQ involved in ours on Friday night, a mini firepit on Saturday and then planting a garden on Sunday! It was great fun, even if a bit exhausting :)
