Let’s Dine Out.

by katelin on July 12, 2012

I love going out to eat.

I mean I don’t love paying for it all the time but I have gotten pretty good at finding deals happy hours and Groupon/Living Social/Restaurant.com discounts and all sorts of ways to make eating out a little cheaper. It also helps that Matt and I don’t eat out nearly as often as we used to, so when we do we can have a little more fun and it’s always a treat.

And I mean, there are just some things that you get dining out that you just can’t get at home.

Hence.

A few of my favorite dining out things:

Eating outside. I love any place that has outdoor seating. And a fan. But still, eating outdoors is magical and it’s currently not something we can do at our apartment. We have no patio and no nothing for outdoor eating, so I jump on the chance anywhere we go.

Trying food I couldn’t make myself.  I’m still sort of a novice chef and I’m pretty limited is in our kitchen so going out to eat lets me order things and enjoy food I otherwise couldn’t create (say – sushi, omelets, anything that’s hard to pronounce).

Enjoying  new wine. You know me, I love wine. And most places have so many varieties and probably a better selection than what I have at home most days so it’s always nice to give them a try when I’m out.

Change of scenery. Even if I’m not eating outside, I’m eating out somewhere different. I love the atmosphere that most restaurants have. It’s usually welcoming and it’s nice to be away from home sometimes and not have to worry about anything (except the check).

No cleaning up. I’m not a total mess when I go out to eat but sweet mercy is it awesome to not have to do dishes after the meal. I sort of despise doing dishes and putting them away, so whenever I can get a night off is a good night.

Great group activity. I love having people over at our apartment but sometimes it’s just a little bit easier to be social and groupy at a restaurant. And it’s something fun to do where everyone can get different meals and you can taste each others things and talk and hang out. And it’s also just fun to mix it up every now.

So yes, dining out is a good thing. And a fun thing. And even though we’ve cut back on our dining adventures lately, it’s still something I look forward to each and every time.

Do you love going out to eat? What are you favorite reasons why? Favorite places to eat?

 happy thursday!

My favorite part is definitely the no cleaning up aspect! Man, I hate making a delicious meal, enjoying it, and then confronting the disaster of a kitchen. I am so happy to pay other people a premium to cook my food and then clean up after me, ha! The yummy food is definitely a bonus too ;)

We love going out. I sometimes try to tell CB that we need to reel it in. but his perspective is that we pay our bills by people coming to eat his food, so we should do the same. When he justifies it that way, I see his point and am more willing. I think he also likes it because he gets taken care of for once.

YES to all of this! I love going out to eat in Chicago or when I’m on vacation. I love eating outside too, I remember us talking about that and it’s so true. Any place w/outdoor seating gets 10 extra points.

Patio dining is one of my favorite things. Once winter fades and the first hints of warm spring weather pop out, everyone in my city starts aching for some patio dining. There’s always something special about that first spring meal eaten outside on a patio with delicious red wine to keep any of the chills still in the air away.
