4th of July is always a big deal with my family [4th of July past -2008, 2009, 2010, 2011] and this year was no different.
While Matt was busy at my parents’ house helping with the BBQ, I was home making a pie. It’s okay, you can just call me Martha Stewart 2.0 now (without the jail sentence).
I tried out Maris’ recipe and you guys, I didn’t mess it up! In fact, I figured out how to lattice all by myself and mixed everything well and it was a success!
Once my baking endeavor was complete I headed to my aunt and uncles for some mini-family time in the pool with a side of rum runners. It was truly divine.
Eventually it was time for the family BBQ and my goodness, so many people. I think this year might have been our biggest turn out yet. It was so great to see so many family and friends and to re-meet my parents’ neighbors. The fire department also made their yearly visit which was great as we all got to pretend to drive and spray the hoses. All in all, it was just a great way to spend a Wednesday.
The whole day was just lovely and I’m just so grateful for the people in my life.
After the big ole BBQ, a few of us headed to my Mother-in-Law’s house to get a view of the fireworks show. We all plopped ourselves down in a wash nearby and caught about eight different shows (who know how many of those were random ones from people’s houses, ha) and then the big Rose Bowl show.
And how was your 4th of July? And big BBQ? Were you in San Diego and thoroughly disappointed by the fireworks show, ha?
happy weekend!
