Sometimes I feel it’s my duty to be a personal advocate for things, random things, things I have absolutely no association with whatsoever. And mos things are things that I tend to latch onto and be completely obsessed with in zero to sixty (ex. Twilight, Hunger Games, all things Keanu, Titanic, Wicked, the list goes on). And lately that duty has been assigned to promoting The Artist to EVERYONE I KNOW. I know, I know you’re probably sick of me talking about it even and having a hard time convincing yourself that you want to sit through a black and white silent film in 2012. But really, you do. And here’s why:
- This movie reminds you that you don’t always need words to get your point across. Seriously this movie is full of the most animated and sincere actors and I adore it.
- Tap Dancing.
- Uggie. Seriously, Uggie steals the show. And he is just awesome.
- The score makes you want to wear a flapper dress and put frills on everything.
- Time warp. Not only do you want to dress like Peppy Miller the entire movie but you want to get fancy to go to the movie theater and have a driver. Magical.
- Perseverance. Everyone loves a good triumphant story and this one is just that, triumphant, encouraging and my goodness you leave that movie wanting to take on your dreams, to adapt, and ah. YES.
- Jean Dujardin, like I said yesterday. He’s sort of swoony. In a classic Clark Gable meets a French Jimmy Stewart kind of way, so demure and just so dapper. Also, the SMILE. Kills.

With that I will say this: The Artist may not be for everyone. I mean look at what I’m obsessed with and my tastes, you may not agree (seriously who else likes Keanu as much as I do, honestly?). Nonetheless, everyone in Hollywood is agreeing with me (The Academy, The Golden Globes, the SAG people, Critic’s Choice, Rotten Tomatoes, the list goes on) and that should mean something (even if it doesn’t).
So. If The Artist is playing nearby, go see it. Then come back and tell me what you thought.
happy thursday!

I want to see it as well. I may see if there is a place near here that’s showing it and take myself to see it =) I’m not sure if it’s Knight’s scene or not but I bet if I asked nicely he’d go. Maybe.
I so want to see this. I’m a lucky gal too because the BF is interested, our next date night will definitely be a viewing of The Artist.
I can’t wait until a theater in SLC is showing this!!
xox
I saw the preview and it looks just delightful! Maybe this weekend I’ll find it at a nearby theater.
i’m going this weekend, i have to! this is right up my alley, how have i NOT seen it is the bigger question!
I’m right there with you – I actually really like Keanu. I met him once on a set and he was really friendly and nice. Not to mention, he has a unique look and sexiness about him.
LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT. It’s been a long time since I loved a movie that much. Jean Dujardin is swoony and the gal that plays Peppy is so freakin’ adorable. You have to have great acting and filmography to pull off a silent film, and they definitely had that. I also especially loved the ending, since those kind of films are a guilty pleasure of mine.
I totally saw this based on your recommendation and I did really like it. The no sound thing did throw me, but it was very good. The music really made it. And the DOG, SO CUTE.
