Wino Wednesday the Third.

by katelin on April 6, 2011

Here we are again, a Wednesday and I’m talking about wine.

I sort of like this new addition to the blog. So people if you know wine people send them my way, I like wine and I like talking about it!

Anyhoo, this week’s post is brought to us by Plonk Wine Merchants, the best bargain wine around.

Here’s a snippet about the company from it’s owner and founder Etty Lewensztain:

Plonk Wine Merchants is the ultimate online destination for artisanal, obscure, and altogether great cheap wine. Plonk Wine Merchants brings you an expertly curated collection of incredible premium quality wine from around the globe at extremely affordable prices. All wines in this store are priced strictly at $30 or below and offer an outstanding bang for the buck. In addition, many of the bargain wines you’ll find here are organic, biodynamic, or rare “diamonds in the rough” made from lesser-known grapes, and are virtually impossible to find in other retail outlets. Plonk Wine Merchants is the brainchild of Etty Lewensztain, a curly-haired, food and wine obsessed Los Angeles native who is certified by the esteemed Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and the American Sommelier Association.

The store has been designed to translate a personalized brick and mortar shopping experience to the digital space, and to that end, you will find an interactive video review on every single wine we sell so you can get a live preview as to what’s in the bottle.

Fun right? And I mean Etty is an LA girl with curly hair and clearly that’s a win.

Now on to a little review, the site itself is great. I absolutely love that there is a map on it where you can explore wines from all over the world. Additionally Etty has video reviews and pairing suggestions with every wine featured which is a great inclusion for any wine newbie.

And speaking of the wine, Plonk sent me a lovely bottle of Rain sauvignon blanc with a fun Plonk label on it. And then I tried to get artsy with my photo taking but there’s only so much I can do with my iphone:

The wine, like most sauvignons, was pretty sweet. But I really enjoyed it. I mean I had two glasses and that’s a lot for me. I sort of loved too that it was from New Zealand because that may be the closest I ever get to that country (nerd alert, nerd alert, haha). But seriously it was a nice blend with not too sharp of a sweetness but just smooth enough. Matt wouldn’t really agree with me as he had one sip and that was enough for him, oh how our palettes differ, haha.

And for some reason I didn’t make popcorn and didn’t have any chocolate but rather enjoyed the wine by itself and that was quite alright with me, perfect for a weeknight night cap.

Anyhoo, feel free to check Plonk Wine Merchants out on Facebook as well and give them a little like, woo.

happy wednesday!

*Plonk Wine Merchants provided me with the bottle of wine for review, but all of the thoughts and ravings of tasty wine are my own*
